Dumb conversation

Me: "Is the running track here 1/8 mile?"
Girl at front desk: "I have no idea but I do know that 9 laps makes a mile."

Fort Worth vs. Wichita
Labels: miscellaneous 2 commentsSome observations about differences between Fort Worth and Wichita for anybody else wanting to make the move. School differences are obviously just comparisons of the districts we've been in and not necessarily true for the whole city.
| Fort Worth | Wichita | |
| Trash picked up by city, limited only to trash bin, curb-side recycling pickup | Trash is privatized, everybody chooses their own trash company, no recycling pickup available | |
| Must dial area code when calling locally, 5 area codes in metroplex | Just have to dial 7 digits, one area code | |
| No state tax, high property tax | State tax, lower property tax but new construction pays "specials" which pay for water and other utilities to be run in new neighborhoods | |
| Most elementary aged children are driven to school | Most elementary aged children ride the bus to school | |
| Bus makes fewer stops so kids end up walking up to 1/4 mile to the bus stop | Many bus stops so most children catch bus right by their house | |
| No enrollment fees but very long school supply list | Enrollment fees, short supply list | |
| Fort Worth Museum is nice | Exploration Place is fantastic | |
| Airport is huge and flies direct many places | Small airport, a few direct flights | |
| Radio stations at almost every frequency | Limited options for radio (XM will come in handy!) | |
| No basements | Basements (which Blake loves!) |

No TV in June
Labels: miscellaneous 1 commentsI've been telling the kids for awhile that I'd be cancelling the satellite TV for the summer to encourage us to get out and do things. Payton didn't believe me but I called today to put our satellite on a temporary suspension. No channels at all for the month of June. We can still watch DVDs, play video games, etc., but there will be no channels to tune into. If it seems to work out well, I may have them suspend the service for July as well. We'll see how it goes!

Getting caught up!
Labels: miscellaneous 0 commentsI haven't posted in a couple of weeks so it's time to get caught up! I think I just got into kind of a lazy funk but it's amazing what the time change can do. More light = happier Shannon. So here we go....

Charlotte's Web
Labels: miscellaneous 1 commentsOn Monday, I took Payton, Aubry (who stayed the night the night before) and Blake to see Charlotte's Web. I packed the tissues because I knew it would get me and it did. I've heard that it's best for ages 7 and up but Blake enjoyed it. I think kids that enjoy Babe would like this movie because it's similar CGI animation. I highly recommend this movie for kids. We have so many movies to see over the next couple of weeks - more on those as we see them. :)
