Saying goodbye to our house

On Thursday, the packing crew came to get our house packed up....

On Friday, the moving truck arrived to load everything up....

By Friday afternoon, we were finishing up cleaning up the house and the new homeowners were chomping at the bit to get in so they started bringing things in as we were leaving. They were nice people and I'm glad to have met them. Andy and I left around 6:30 on Friday for the last time. We're glad that the house sold and that this part of the process is completed. It wasn't as emotional as I thought it might be but we'll be glad to finally get a house again and get back to normal as soon as possible. Not sure when that will be yet but I'll keep you posted when I know for sure!

Fort Worth vs. Wichita

Some observations about differences between Fort Worth and Wichita for anybody else wanting to make the move. School differences are obviously just comparisons of the districts we've been in and not necessarily true for the whole city.

Fort Worth
Wichita
Trash picked up by city, limited only to trash bin, curb-side recycling pickup
Trash is privatized, everybody chooses their own trash company, no recycling pickup available
Must dial area code when calling locally, 5 area codes in metroplex
Just have to dial 7 digits, one area code
No state tax, high property tax
State tax, lower property tax but new construction pays "specials" which pay for water and other utilities to be run in new neighborhoods
Most elementary aged children are driven to school
Most elementary aged children ride the bus to school
Bus makes fewer stops so kids end up walking up to 1/4 mile to the bus stop
Many bus stops so most children catch bus right by their house
No enrollment fees but very long school supply list
Enrollment fees, short supply list
Fort Worth Museum is nice
Exploration Place is fantastic
Airport is huge and flies direct many places
Small airport, a few direct flights
Radio stations at almost every frequency
Limited options for radio (XM will come in handy!)
No basements
Basements (which Blake loves!)
